Predicted Evening Transits for
Shuttle Atlantis (STS-66)

(STS-66 Atlantis) - Wednesday, November 9th from 5:46 to 5:48 p.m., a northwest to east transit. Atlantis will peak in the northeastern sky at 5:47, about 45 degrees above the horizon moving eastward.

Result - Wednesday, 11/09/94. (See photo above) Atlantis was observed ascending in the northwest sky at 17:43 hours local time. The SPAS free flying pallet was observed trailing Atlantis by about 7 seconds. Atlantis became increasingly brilliant as it moved eastward.


(STS-66 Atlantis) - Thursday, November 10th from 5:54 to 5:56 p.m., a northwest to south transit. Atlantis will peak in the southwestern sky at 5:55, about 50 degrees above the horizon moving southward.

Result -Thursday, 11/10/94. Atlantis was observed ascending in the northwest sky at 17:52 hours local time. The SPAS free flying pallet was observed trailing Atlantis by about 3 seconds. The weather was rainy up until the last 30 minutes before this transit, wherein a partial break in the northwest sky occurred to permit viewing. One notable occurrence was the Russian Mir was seen approximately 7 minutes earlier, in a totally different orbit.
